The Theme is the Thing...

Wow, between the holidays, being sick, and craziness at work, I really have not posted in a long time! Well then, here is the story of how we chose our wedding theme!

When Zack and I started talking about getting married the first thing I started thinking about was what our wedding would look like. I mean, what kind of a soiree do you throw for two comic book reading, rock and roll music loving, too much television watching, little kids at heart? The first thing I did was turn to my trusty friend Google. My initial inspiration were a little cookie cutter. Some very pretty weddings that we both really liked but nothing really felt like "us." (I apologize for the lack of photos of these original inspirations, they are on my old laptop which is not really... well working at all.) After months of stumbling around I finally found this image:

Look at those top hats! And the goggles! And the textures, and the rich, intimate color palate, and the romantic Victorian feel! What is this beautiful, wonderful, amazing thing? Well this, this is steampunk.

Wikipedia describes steampunk as follows:
"Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery, especially in a setting inspired by industrialized Western civilization during the 19th century. Therefore, steampunk works are often set in an alternate history of the 19th century's British Victorian era or American "Wild West", in a post-apocalyptic future during which steam power has regained mainstream use, or in a fantasy world that similarly employs steam power."
I was in love! The wonder that is Pinterest opened me up to an entire world of steampunk that I never knew existed!

I was so excited to incorporate this into our big day because the feel I immediately got from it was this:

Yes, my wedding theme reminds me of Firefly. Is that bad? Maybe. Do I care, NO!

Anyway, once I shared this idea with Zack, it just felt so amazing unique and us. We decided to add even more of our personalities by incorporating our love of comic books as well. So look out for all the nerdy, unique, offbeat crafts, attire, and details!
