We Interrput this Blog to Bring you an Important Holiday Announcement!

Zack and I finally first started in October of 2009. When Christmas rolled around, I didn’t feel comfortable exchanging gifts when we weren’t settled as a couple yet, and he agreed, so we decided not to. As we were talking about our how we usually spent the holidays I told Zack about a tradition we had in my family. Every year for Christmas my grandma or stepmom buy all of the children a Christmas ornament. This was always one of my favorite parts of the holidays, I always loved opening up the ornament and hanging it on the tree. I mentioned this tradition to Zack, but promptly forgot about it in the bliss of new coupledom. But Zack didn't forget and he decided to get us a "joint gift." So he bought a gorgeous personalized ornament that he had engraved.

The beautiful ornament.
The caption reads, "I'll love you always Megan. The first of many. Love, Zach" Yes, they spelled his name wrong.
Since then, we decided to borrow this tradition... which makes me way too excited! The next year we got a cute little penguin ornament, because we have an odd obsession with penguins.

This was actually on top of on of my gifts that year.
Last year we got a cute little Shetland Sheepdog ornament for our furbaby Myra. Unfortunately her ornament had a bit of an accident this year, oops!
What happened to my ornament Daddy?
Still looks great!
This year, we wanted to find an ornament to commemorate our engagement, but everything I found was, well… cheesy.

I mean, really?! Image via ornamentplus.com.
We decided rather than relying on someone else to make something for us, we would make something perfect all on our own! After one long trip to Joanne fabrics, we came home with this haul.

The shell of our ornament, a pocket watch.

Some really cool gears.
Using some brackets we plugged the holes in all the gears so that none of the hot glue we were using to hold it together would show through.
Said brackets.

The components for the "ring."
Next, we glued the gears into the back of the faux pocket watch. As I did this, Zack made us a very cute fake engagement ring.

Working hard on the ring.

Showing off my new fake (and real!) sparkle.
Finishing touches.
We glued this on top of the gears, pressed the top back on, and voila, our very own steampunk engagement ornament!

All finished and hung on the tree!
And almost three weeks later we finally got the tree set up and decorated!

Myra posing in front of the tree.
Cinnamon roll break! Wondering what the heck steampunk is? Stay tuned!

The Proposal

Most uninspired name ever, but sometimes things just need to be capitalized and shouted for the world to see!

Now, before I get into this, you need a little bit of background. Zack and I are huge nerds.

(Zack posing with Darth Vader on a recent trip to the Wax Museum in Hollywood)

(Huntress by Sean Forney, this is a rough sketch of the final ink drawing we have hanging in our house.)

I mean spend tons of money on comic books, decorate our house with artwork, religiously follow shows with amazing Sci-Fi characters, dress up for Halloween, travel the country and attend Comic Cons kind of nerds. Now you may be asking yourself, what the heck is Comic Con? Comic Con is a large convention of comic books and popular arts. Basically it's every nerdtastic thing you've ever seen in your life thrown under one roof. People travel for miles, spend thousands on costumes, and dress up for the most fabulous weekend of amazingness. Before I met Zack, Comic Con was just a vague idea in the back of my mind about where the weirdo's go on the weekends. (Turns out, I am one of those weirdo's. :) ) My first Comic Con was Motor City Comic Con in Novi, Michigan, and I loved it! There were so many amazing things, I couldn't even name them all to you. Artists drawing whatever character strikes your fancy (for a price, but still!),  metalworkers, sculptors, jewelry makers, specialized clothing, statues, toys, and comics as far as the eye can see! After that, we also went to Chicago Comic Con (pictured above) and I loved it just as much! Also, random side note, our hotel room in Chicago was awesome! When we heard that there was a Comic Con going on in our hometown, we just had to go!

A few days before we were going, Zack informed me that he had purchased a photo opportunity with one of my favorite actresses, Eliza Dushku.
(Isn't she gorgeous?! Photo from IMBD)

Some of her works include:

Bring It On
Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back
Angel
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
(and my favorite) Dollhouse!

(Sooooo good! Photo from Wikipedia)

Now, I was pretty excited, but I have to admit, I was also kind of annoyed. Photo opportunities are $55 and that's for one unsigned photo! I wasn't going to argue though because, really, when was I ever going to have this chance again?! We spent the first few hours of Comic Con just wandering around and scoping out artists to see what we were going to buy. When the time slot for our photo op came up, we made our way to the back of the con and got in a really long line. I was grumpy because I barely got any sleep and it is really expensive to get your picture taken with a celebrity at cons and there was a really weird guy who wouldn't shut up in line in front of us. Finally, we're getting ready to go in and they are like, "No biting, no hugging, be respectful, ect." (Off topic, but they really said "no biting" like six times! It was weird.) We go in and I'm ready to take the picture and suddenly I hear Eliza go, "Oh stop! Not another one!" and I look over and SO is on one knee and I'm thinking, 'What are you doing?! They said not to be weird, you're going to get us kicked out!' And then he holds up the box with the ring and my hands flew to my mouth and all I could say was, "Oh my god!"

I repeated this over and over for a few minutes before Zack was able to ask me to marry him, of course I said "Yes!"

I cried quite a bit. And even Eliza teared up!

Then he slipped the ring on, and we hugged!

We took a serious one, and then she agreed to sign one for us for free!

It was absolutely spectacular! With all of my waiting, I have thought of hundreds of ways that Zack could propose, and even some at Comic Con, but this was never something I saw coming! And here is the beautiful ring that came with my amazing proposal and new fiancé!

In case you were wondering Eliza said "not again" because there was a couple that got engaged during her Q&A, but she said ours was better because she could tell the girl from the first one knew and I didn't!

Me on Waiting

And waiting, and waiting, and waiting and waiting and waiting and waiting.

Waiting for what you ask? For a proposal of course!

When we first began dating, marriage was just not something I wanted. Nor was it something he wanted. Then one day something just… shifted. I can’t even tell you what, or why, or how, but all I knew is that I wanted to be married. No, not married. I wanted to be his. I had never wanted to be something more than I wanted to be his Mrs. and he wanted to be my Mr. Without discussing it or overthinking it, it was suddenly apparent to both of us that marriage was something we desperately wanted. Aaaaaaannnd cue waiting.

I waited a long, long, looooong time before Zack got down on one knee and decided to make an honest women out of me. Okay, a year and a half isn't that long, but I’m an impatient person!
There are many, many reasons a girl will wait for a proposal. In my case, it was all about timing. Zack and I shared finances since about six months into our relationship. It just seemed to work much better for us to share our funds rather than paying each other back and forth for things. Every time we built up a savings that could be used toward a ring, something else came up; car repairs, vet bills, moving fees, etc. Because of this, there was absolutely no way Zack could buy a ring and surprise me. So, instead of trying to do it that way, we decided to pick out a ring together.
Once that was settled, we began another long, trying process, the process of finding the ring! We tried a lot of different jewelry stores. At one, the sales lady was super rude, she even asked at one point if I was even 18! At another, we just couldn’t find the ring we wanted. I was super set on a unique band with a marquise and Zack was set on a half carat stone. They didn’t have either, and especially not both. At yet another I found a ring I really liked, and we couldn't get financed. Finally, exhausted and almost ready to give up, we stumbled into Kay Jewelers. I do not have enough good things to say about this place! We came in with a vague idea of what we wanted and the ladies there spent a long time helping us find exactly what we were looking for! We ended up picking a loose marquise and having it custom placed into a setting I fell in love with. When I slipped it on my finger, I gasped and the sales lady slapped her hand down on the counter and exclaimed, “That’s the sigh! This is it!” (Quick side note, they’ve never done this particular match up before so I will never have a ring twin! This makes me overly insanely happy.) These lovely ladies then spent the next two hours doing everything in their power to finance us to get my beautiful darling. Seriously. I love them. We left with a vague idea of something like this:

Next time I will share with you guys how my amazing, perfect proposal went down!
Random Alert! How many times did I say “wait,” “waited,” or “waiting,” in this post? 10!

The Crazy, Mix Up, Wacky Story of How We Met

Now that you know a little bit about who we are and what we are here to do (get married! Just in case you forgot) you probably want to know how we met.

Well, this story makes me look truly, horribly, just… awful. Really. I promise that what I am about to tell you was all in good fun though I must say Zack is amazing because I don’t think anyone else would be marrying a girl they met like this.
*Deep breath* Okay. As I previously mentioned,  Zack and I both work at a very busy fast casual dining establishment. Right now, we are at different locations, but once upon a time we worked together in the same store.

(Personal photo, logos blurred [very poorly] for obvious reasons.)

Zack had moved down from Michigan and had just gotten a job working at my store. I had never spoken to him, never met him, and didn’t even know his name, but I thought he was cute and I’d heard he was some sort of food making god and so as he was getting ready to go on break and I wandered down from the register I was working on to where he was making his food and promptly uttered, “Geeze fatty, eat much?”
… Foot, meet mouth.
After a few moments of silence (in which all of the employees in the area stared at me like I was crazy) Zack just laughed and went ahead with his break. To this day I still thank my lucky stars that we have the same twisted sense of humor otherwise I wouldn’t be with the love of my life!
And the rest, as they say, is history. Well, not quite, but that is a story for a different day!

Welcome!

Hello! I am so excited to have you here to read all about this wonderful journey I am embarking on called... wedding planning!

First, a little bit about me.

(That's me! And my wonderful fiancé Zack!)
My name is Megan. I am 21 years old and I work full time as a shift supervisor for a very, very busy fast casual restaurant. I am a comic book loving, shower singing, video game playing, fun loving fur baby mommy who is just making the best of the life she's living.
My wonderful, amazing, handsome fiancé is the love of my life and I can not wait to be his bride. He has opened my world to so many things that I never knew that existed before. (Hello, Firefly!) Without him, I wouldn't have grown into the amazing person I am today and I am so thankful to him for so many things... Okay, gushing over.
A few things you'll learn about me through this process:
1. I am always singing. Always.
2. I am a super nerd, get ready for a whole new world. (... And now I'm singing.)
3. I'm really random. Squirrel!
4. I'll use a lot of exclamation points. A lot.
5. I am so ready to be married!
Alright, so I hope now that you know what to expect you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!
